Moby Grape
Moby Grape is an American rock band formed in San Francisco in 1966, emerging as one of the most talented groups of the psychedelic era. The band blended rock and roll, folk, pop, blues, country, and psychedelic elements with tight harmonies and superb songwriting. All five members were accomplished lead vocalists and songwriters, creating rich, multi-layered performances. The original lineup featured Jerry Miller, Peter Lewis, Skip Spence, Bob Mosley and Don Stevenson.
Moby Grape released their self-titled debut album in June 1967. It was a critical and commercial success, peaking at No. 24 on the Billboard charts. The album is frequently ranked among the best of the era, with Rolling Stone later calling it a "stunning artifact of San Francisco rock.
Subsequent albums like Wow/Grape Jam (1968, a double album with a jam side), Moby Grape '69, and Truly Fine Citizen (1969) showcased the same brilliance but didn't achieve great commercial success. The original lineup essentially dissolved by the end of the 1960s.
