Three Dog Night

Three Dog Night is an iconic American rock band formed in Los Angeles in 1967, known for their wonderful three-lead-vocalist harmonies, pop-rock sound, and a remarkable string of hits in the late 1960s and early 1970s. The band was founded by vocalists Danny Hutton, Cory Wells, and Chuck Negron. They were joined by a lineup that included Jimmy Greenspoon on keyboards, Michael Allsup on guitar, Joe Schermie on bass, and Floyd Sneed on drums.

Three Dog Night exploded in popularity starting in 1969. They achieved 21 consecutive Billboard Top 40 hits between 1969 and 1975, with 11 Top 10s and three No. 1 singles. What set the group apart was their reliance on songs written by outside composers. Two of the No. 1 singles were written by non-band members, including Mama Told Me (Not to Come) by Randy Newman and Joy to the World by Hoyt Axton. The band released a string of gold and platinum albums, sold millions of records, and became one of the top draws of the era.
