Shea Stadium, New York, NY 8/15/65

Catalog No. MSO-SHE.1965.08.15

This boxing-style cardboard poster advertised the legendary Aug. 15, 1965 Beatles concert that took place at New York City’s Shea Stadium. The Aug. 15 concert opened The Beatles’ 1965 North American Tour and more than 55,600 fans attended—the largest Beatles concert up to that time. Promoter Sid Bernstein presented the concert, and television host Ed Sullivan introduced the band as it took the stage. The half-hour concert was a milestone in musical history as one of the first major stadium concerts—despite the Fab Four playing only 12 songs. The importance of this poster cannot be overstated. It was the only poster produced to advertise this show, which immediately sold out. A handbill was also created that looks just like the poster but on a smaller scale.

The original poster was printed on cardboard and measures approximately 10” x 17”.

The original handbill was printed on thin white paper and measures approximately 5½” x 8½”.
