Avalon Ballroom 12/23-24/66
Catalog No. FD-40
This poster is known as “Hippie Santa Claus” and was designed by Victor Moscoso. The central image is a Santa Claus-like character with small horns surrounded by a circle filled with small triangles. At the time of this concert, the Family Dog was using radio ads promising a Hippie Santa Claus, thus the name of the poster. Strangely, the artist referred to this image as “The Satanic Santa.”
The original poster was printed on vellum and measures approximately 14″ x 20″.
The original handbill exists in two types-both were printed on thin paper and measure approximately 8½ ″ x 11″:
Type A matches the color of the poster; and
Type B has very little to non-existent red ink.
