Longshoreman's Hall 11/6/66
Catalog No. AOR-2.9
These prohibitively rare posters and handbills advertise the last event promoted by the Family Dog at Longshoreman’s Hall. Ellen Harmon, one of the original four partners in the Family Dog collective, was an avid reader of Marvel comic books and helped dedicate the first dance to “Dr. Strange,” Master of the Mystic Arts. The comic book theme continued through the next two dances, known as “A Tribute to Sparkle Plenty” and “A Tribute to Ming the Merciless,” both 1940s comic book characters. Alton Kelley, also an original Family Dog partner, executed the artwork for the first two handbills.
The original poster was printed on red paper in blue ink and measures approximately 13” x 20”
The original handbill was printed on white paper in black ink and measures approximately 8½" x 11"
The original ticket was printed on orange stock and measures approximately 4¼” x 1¾”.

Original HandbillCondition: Very Fine -Notes: A bit of faint writing on the back; a little aging. There are a few well hidden creases in the body of this handbill, but it is far nicer than the only other one of these we have ever handled - which was eons ago! Keep in mind that it is unlikely that more than five of these exist! |
