Avalon Ballroom 5/5-7/67

While very common as a second print, we rarely see first prints of this poster. The Rick Griffin design features a photograph of Janis Joplin surrounded by the band members, topped by the headline “Motherload.”

The original poster was printed on white stock and measures approximately 14″ x 20″. Below the word “Room” on the right side of the poster is a heart-shaped design with an arrowhead-shaped tail. On original posters, the top edge of the tail is filled with pale brown ink.

The second print poster was printed on white index stock and measures approximately 14″ x 20″. The area described under the original poster is white and not filled with brown ink.

The postcard comes in three varieties, all of which measure approximately 5″ x 7″:

The Type A card has a “place stamp here” reverse.

The Type B card has a bulk rate permit on the back.

The Type C card has a bulk rate permit on the back and was mechanically addressed and sent to people on the Family Dog mailing list.
