Fillmore West 4/17-19/69

This poster by Randy Tuten marks the first-ever live appearance of The Band, which took place in April 1969. The show was memorable for numerous reasons, but chief among them was a mysterious illness that kept lead guitarist Robbie Robertson from performing for a couple of hours. Bill Graham saved the day by recruiting a hypnotist to work on Robertson. The idea worked, and the show—while late—went on as planned.

The original poster was printed on slick, glossy-coated index stock and measures approximately 13⅝″ x 20¾″.

The second print poster was printed on slick, glossy-coated index stock and measures approximately 13¾″ x 20¾″. There is a small script “w” in the lower right corner next to the ticket outlet strip.

The postcard comes in two varieties, both of which measure approximately 4⅝″ x 7″:

The Type A card has a “place stamp here” reverse.

The Type B card has a calendar of Bill Graham events on the back.

A double postcard was also printed that bears the images of both BG-168 and 169 and measures approximately 7″ x 9¼″. This card has a bulk rate permit on the back. In addition, some copies were addressed and mailed to people on the mailing list.
