Avalon Ballroom 6/22-25/67
The trio of FD-63, FD-67, and FD-71 combine to make a beautiful triptych. All use photographs of The Charlatans that were taken by Herb Greene and feature the band members in cowboy outfits. The FD-63 and FD-67 were designed by Rick Griffin, and the FD-71 was designed by Robert Fried—obviously in keeping with the Griffin theme.
The original poster was printed on tan index stock and measures approximately 13⅞″ x 21⅞″. Original posters have the left margin trimmed off, right to the black border.
The second print poster was printed on tan index stock and measures approximately 14″ x 21⅜″. Second print posters have a brown left border; the color tends to be a watery off-brown color that does not match the postcards.
The postcard comes in three varieties, all of which measure approximately 5″ x 7″:
The Type A card has a “place stamp here” reverse.
The Type B card has a bulk rate permit on the back.
The Type C card has a bulk rate permit on the back and was mechanically addressed and sent to people on the Family Dog mailing list.
