Fillmore Auditorium 8/1-6/67
The central image is a human face surrounded by swirls of hair. The performers advertised on this poster—Muddy Waters, Buffalo Springfield and Richie Havens—appear in lettering that cloaks the face. Both this image and BG-75 demonstrate Bonnie MacLean’s peerless skill at drawing the human face. One of the problems facing psychedelic artists during this time period was that fine details became lost in the printing process. Many of the original artists’ drawings for these posters show much finer detail than appears on the final posters. Neil, Stratford and Kerr was a quality printer, but even its large camera lost some fine detail. For this reason, anyone interested in psychedelic poster art should look at the original drawings if the opportunity arises.
The original Type One poster was printed on white index stock and measures approximately 14″ x 21½″. These posters do not have a brown border.
The original Type Two poster was printed on white index stock and measures approximately 14″ x 21½″. All examples of this poster have a thin brown border across the top and down the top one-third of each side.
The postcard has a “place stamp here” reverse and measures approximately 4½″ x 7″.
A double postcard was also printed. This card bears the images of both BG-75 and 76 and measures approximately 4½″ x 14″. This card has a bulk rate permit on the back. In addition, some copies were addressed and mailed to people on the mailing list.
