The Matrix 11/5-9/68

Started in August 1965, the Matrix was an important part of the formative years of the San Francisco music scene and featured shows with many of the largest rock bands, as well as many blues and jazz artists. Jefferson Airplane singer Marty Balin started the club after persuading three other people to put up the $9,000 required to open the doors. Jefferson Airplane was the house band for quite some time and other great groups such as Big Brother, The Grateful Dead, The Doors, and Santana played there often. Balin eventually sold out to the original partners who continued to run the business until the doors closed in 1972.

This interesting hand-drawn handbill was good for one free admission to the Matrix for a few shows featuring Wildflower and Marvin Gardens.

The original handbill was printed on thin white stock and measures approximately 8" x 11".
