Barton Hall, Ithaca, NY 5/8/77
Catalog No. MSO-BAH.1977.05.08
The 1977 Barton Hall show is considered by thousands of Deadheads as the best concert ever performed by the band. Its importance has been confirmed by its addition to the National Recording Registry in the Library of Congress in 2012. Although numerous bootleg recordings had circulated since the show, the first official release on CD was on May 5, 2017.
For this show, 500 of these posters were produced, and they were mainly distributed to Cornell Concert Commission members and students, with a small number of posters going to ticket outlets. Little advertising was done - or needed - for that matter, because the show sold out in two days. The reprint poster was printed by Art Rock in an addition of 1000 numbered posters.
The original poster was printed on white stock and measures approximately 17" x 23".
The second print poster was printed on white stock and measures approximately 20" x 26".
Original tickets exist and measure approximately 4 ¼” x 1 ½”. These come in two types; an orange ticket marked “Public” and a blue ticket marked “C.U. Student”. The blue tickets seem to be much scarcer. Both are rare and we have sold a couple of examples in the past at auction fro between $1500 and $2000.
