Dating from March 1967, this handbill advertised an appearance by Julian Bond at the Fifth Estate in Los Angeles. The Fifth Estate was a coffeehouse on Sunset Strip, and also the office for The Los Angeles Free Press - the first underground newspaper in the U.S. Julian Bond was a front-runner in the Civil Rights Movement, and in the early sixties he helped establish the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC). Bond was elected to the Georgia House of Representatives, where he served from 1967 to 1974. He was subsequently elected to the Georgia Senate from 1975 to 1987. SNCC was very involved with the Bay Area scene, including benefit shows held at The Fillmore.

The original handbill was printed on white stock and measures approximately 8½” x 11”.
