Fillmore Auditorium 10/14-16/66

This image marks the debut of Big Mama Mae Thornton at The Fillmore. Opening acts were The Paul Butterfield Blues Band and Jefferson Airplane. Thornton was the first to record the song, Hound Dog, later made a bit more famous by Elvis. Hound Dog hit #1 on the R&B charts, where it stayed for seven weeks. This single sold almost two million copies.

The original poster was printed on white stock and measures approximately 13″ x 23½″. This printing has “October 16” printed across the photograph and has a black background behind “14” and “15.”

The second print poster was printed on white stock and measures approximately 13½″ x 23½″. This printing has “October 16” printed across the photograph and has a brown background behind “14” and “15.”

The third print poster was printed on white stock and measures approximately 13⅞″ x 23½″. This printing does not have “October 16” printed across the photograph.

The original handbill matches the original poster and measures approximately 4½″ x 8¼″.
