Wes Wilson was certainly at the top of his game when he designed this beautiful Jefferson Airplane poster! The central image melts into the lettering in an artistic rendition of the psychedelic experience. Joining Jefferson Airplane on the bill were Quicksilver Messenger Service and Dino Valenti—regulars at The Fillmore. Valenti was well known at the time for writing the song, Get Together. He faded into obscurity, and toward the end of the sixties he spent numerous stints in jail for drug busts.

Major differences of opinion exist on the variations between printings of the BG-48 poster. We will describe them as Eric King does, with notations regarding other opinions. Since proof sheets exist that prove that the small items were printed with the posters and either postcards or handbills exist for every type of poster, we are inclined to believe that all of the posters were printed prior to the shows.

The original poster comes in four major types, all of which measure approximately 13¾″ x 23¼″.

The Type 1 original has dark blue lettering and no green ink imprint. These are quite scarce.

The Type 2 original has dot screen lettering and no green imprint. This is the rarest version of this poster and only a few exist.

The Type 3 original has dark blue lettering and a green imprint. The most commonly seen version.

The Type 4 original has dot screen lettering and a green imprint. Another very scarce version.

The handbills come in two types, both of which measure approximately 4⅞″ x 8⅛″:

The Type A handbill matches the Type 1 poster.

The Type B handbill matches the Type 4 poster.

The postcards come in three types. All of which measure approximately 4⅞″ x 8⅛″ and have “place stamp here” reverses:

The Type A card matches the Type 2 poster.

The Type B card matches the Type 3 poster.

The Type C card matches the Type 4 poster.
