Avalon Ballroom 2/24-25/67
This popular poster is quite common as a second print, but we rarely have the opportunity to offer an original. The image is called “Neptune’s Notion,” and it was used for a February 1967 Moby Grape show at the Avalon Ballroom.
The original poster was printed on white index stock and measures approximately 14″ x 20″. Original posters do not have the line described under the second print poster below.
There are three different reprint posters and it is unknown which order they were done in.
The "second" print poster, listed as RP-2 in Eric King's guide was printed on white index stock and measures approximately 14″ x 20″. There is a small line in the blue border that is only a few thousandths of an inch wide by ⅛″ long above the “ER” in “Kepler’s.” The back of this print does not turn gray or lavender under blacklight. It is believed that this was printed last among the reprints.
The "third" print poster, listed as RP-3 in Eric King's guide was printed two-up with the FD-59 reprint. These are distinguished by the measurements which are approximately 14 23/64" x 20 1/16"
The last reprint, listed as RP-4 in Eric King's guide is approximately 14" x 20" and the back will turn gray or lavender under blacklight. It is believed that this is actually the first reprint.
The postcard comes in three varieties, all of which measure approximately 5″ x 7″:
The Type A card has a “place stamp here” reverse.
The Type B card has a bulk rate permit on the back.
The Type C card has a bulk rate permit on the back and was mechanically addressed and sent to people on the Family Dog mailing list.
