Gary Grimshaw was one of the greatest Detroit-area poster artists. He began designing in the late 60s and fled Michigan in 1968 to escape prosecution on drug charges. Grimshaw returned to Michigan in 1971, was tried and beat the drug charges, and began regular poster design and newspaper work.
This image was designed to promote a J. Geils show at Eastern Michigan University in 1973. It is a big, bold poster that grabs your attention with its large photo and maroon color. Many of the Michigan items were not saved and are quite scarce today’this poster is no exception.
The original poster was printed on white stock and measures approximately 16″ x 22″.
The original handbill was printed on thin white stock and measures approximately 8 1/2" x 11".
