Fillmore Auditorium 3/25-27/66
Catalog No. FD-3
Designed by Chet Helms and Wes Wilson, this early Family Dog poster is simply known as “Paul Butterfield,” and is extremely rare. The central image of this poster is a photograph of Bernard McFadden, a health food and fasting advocate from the 1920s. As with the first two Family Dog posters, the press run on this was very small-probably around 500.
The original poster is printed on white vellum in black ink and measures approximately 14″ x 20″.
The second print poster is also printed on white vellum, which is coarser than the original, in black ink and measures approximately 14″ x 20″. It carries the notation “3(2)” in the lower left corner, as well as the Union logo #72 in the lower right corner.
The third print poster, most likely printed in 1967, is printed on uncoated index stock and measures approximately 14″ x 20″. It carries the notation “No. 3-3” in the lower right corner, and is absent the Union logo found on the second print poster.
There is a pirate print, circa 1987, that has coarser detail than the authorized reprints.
The original handbill measures approximately 5″ x 8″ and is printed on white paper in black ink.
There is a forgery of the handbill that also measures 5″ x 8″, but it can be identified by the lack of dot screen detail within the torso of the man.
