This Family Dog poster—with its great design by Rick Griffin—promoted a Janis Joplin/Big Brother & The Holding Company show at 1601 West Evans in Denver, Colorado. This was the first show the Family Dog presented in Denver and two sizes of posters were produced. The smaller-sized poster was reprinted, but the larger version was not. The wonderfully drawn central image has a ribbon running through it that says “Everybody is Good at Heart,” which was part of Griffin’s philosophy of life. The drawing features many elements of earlier Family Dog posters, as well as some other interesting inclusions.
The original poster comes in two different sizes. Both were printed on uncoated index stock that matches the postcards.
The Type 1 original measures approximately 14″ x 20″.
The Type 2 original measures approximately 19″ x 27⅞″.
The second print poster is printed on glossy stock and measures approximately 14" x 20".
The postcard is printed on uncoated index stock and measures approximately 5″ x 7″. All postcards have a blank back.
