Avalon Ballroom 11/11-12/66

Catalog No. FD-34

This is another poster with two indistinguishable early printings; one printing was from before and one from shortly after the shows. A total of 3,000 posters were printed during these two press runs. The central image of this poster is an eye sitting atop a pyramid that is surrounded by rays. This early Masonic reference from artist Steve Renick came months before Rick Griffin started using it more extensively.

The original poster was printed on vellum and measures approximately 14″ x 20″. The notation “The Bindweed Press San Francisco” appears below the right edge of the ticket outlets strip. Color variation is considerable on this poster.

The third print poster was printed on uncoated index stock and measures approximately 14″ x 20″. The notation “No. 34-3” appears in the lower right corner.

There are three types of original handbills. All were printed on thin paper and measure approximately 8″ x 11″:

Type A was printed on white paper in green and purple ink;

Type B was printed on white paper in green and orange ink; and

Type C was printed on white paper in green and tan ink.
