Avalon Ballroom 2/3-4/67

This popular image was designed by Victor Moscoso and is known as “Five Moons.” The bands shown are Country Joe & The Fish, and The Sparrow, which later became Steppenwolf. This poster was printed twice and the print runs can be difficult to tell apart.

The original poster comes in two varieties:

The Type 1 original was printed on very thin (.0058″) glossy stock and measures approximately 14⅛″ x 20″.

The Type 2 original was printed on thicker (.0065″) porous stock that is similar to vellum. This original measures approximately 14″ x 20″.

The second print poster was printed on white index stock that is similar to that used on many later Family Dog posters. This stock is also somewhat glossy, but is thicker (.0075″) than the original. The second print posters measure approximately 14⅛″ x 20″.

The postcards come in several varieties, all of which measure approximately 5″ x 7″. Each variety also comes in both paper types that the original posters were printed on:

The Type A card has a “place stamp here” reverse.

The Type B card has a bulk rate permit on the back.

The Type C card has a bulk rate permit on the back and was mechanically addressed and sent to people on the Family Dog mailing list.
