Avalon Ballroom 10/21-22/66

This poster was printed two times before the concerts. The first time the poster was printed it bore the wrong concert dates. A second press run was made with the correct dates, and these posters were widely distributed to spread the word regarding the correct dates for the concerts. Today, the posters and handbills with the incorrect dates are widely sought by collectors and are collected along with the corrected version as part of the Family Dog series.

The Type A original poster has the incorrect date of 10/20-21/66. The notation “The Bindweed Press San Francisco” appears in the lower right corner. This poster was printed on vellum and measures approximately 14″ x 20″.

The Type B original poster has the correct date of 10/21-22/66. The Bindweed Press credit appears in the lower right corner. This poster was also printed on vellum and measures approximately 14″ x 20″.

The third print poster was printed on uncoated index stock and measures approximately 14⅛″ x 20″. The notation “No. 31-3” appears in the lower right corner.

There are four different versions of the original handbills. All were printed on thin paper and measure approximately 8″ x 11″:

Type A has the incorrect dates and is printed on white paper in gray ink;

Type B has the incorrect dates and is printed on white paper in gray and yellow ink;

Type C has the incorrect dates and is printed on white paper in gray and coral ink; and

Type D has the corrected dates and is printed on white paper in black ink.
