This gorgeous, early Family Dog poster was designed by Stanley Mouse and Alton Kelley for a January 13-14, 1967 show at the Avalon Ballroom featuring Moby Grape, Sparrow, and The Charlatans. Interestingly, this poster also advertised the now-famous Human Be-In on January 14 at Golden Gate Park.
The original poster comes in two varieties.
The Type 1 original measures approximately 14″ x 20″ and has a “Double H Press” credit below the Family Dog telephone number.
The Type 2 original measures approximately 14⅛″ x 20″; the “Double H Press” credit has been deleted.
The postcard comes in three versions, all of which measure approximately 5″ x 7″.
The Type A card has a blank back.
The Type B card has a Family Dog credit and bulk mail permit on the back.
The Type C card was mechanically addressed and sent to people on the Family Dog mailing list.
