Fillmore Auditorium 12/30-31/66
Catalog No. BG-37
Designed for the 1966/67 New Year's Eve Bash at The Fillmore that headlined the Grateful Dead, Jefferson Airplane, and Quicksilver Messenger Service, this handbill is classic Wes Wilson. The beautifully rendered lettering forms the woman's hair while a hand holds an hourglass in the background. Because these are longer than most other posters from The Fillmore, they tend to get damaged on the upper and lower edges, where they stick out of 24-inch sleeves.
The original poster was printed on several different paper stocks and measures approximately 14⅛″ x 24⅜″. The stock used for this printing varies from .0060″ to .0090″, however most are on stock that is .0080″ or thinner. Any copy on stock that is .0080″ or thinner is considered to be an original. On copies that are on thicker stock, the color must be readily identifiable as being reddish-brown for it to be an original.
The second print poster was printed on .0090″ stock and measures approximately 14″ x 24¾″. The border color on the second print is much more consistent and is much darker than on an original.
The original handbill measures approximately 4¼″ x 7⅞″. There are two varieties in which the reddish-brown bar framing the top of the central image is a different width. In addition, some copies of this handbill were addressed and mailed to people on the mailing list.
The postcard was printed concurrently with the second print poster and measures approximately 4¼″ x 8″.
