The BG-165 poster promoted a series of shows with Janis Joplin and her band. The Randy Tuten design is beautiful, and it features a photo of Janis framed by a jukebox. Bill Graham was not a fan of this particular poster because he couldn't read it!
The original poster was printed on slick, glossy-coated index stock and measures approximately 14⅛″ x 21″. This poster has a white band inside the red one on the juke box.
The second print poster was printed on slick, glossy-coated index stock and measures approximately 14¼″ x 21″. This printing has a yellow band inside the red one on the juke box.
The postcard comes in two varieties, both of which measure approximately 4⅝″ x 7″:
The Type A card has a “place stamp here” reverse.
The Type B card has a calendar of Bill Graham events on the back.
A double postcard was also printed. This card bears the images of both BG-164 and 165 and measures approximately 7″ x 9¼″. It has a bulk rate permit on the back. In addition, some copies were addressed and mailed to people on the mailing list.
