Fillmore Auditorium 4/14-16/67
Catalog No. BG-59
This poster is ochre, magenta, and purple on a white background. The central image is a woman wearing a long, flamboyant gown. Howlin’ Wolf, Country Joe & The Fish, and Loading Zone form the backdrop, while the venue name—The Fillmore Auditorium—undulates across the skirt of the gown. The transformation of her nipple into a peace symbol is characteristic of the subtle wit of the artists of this period, and it is often overlooked by critics of psychedelic posters. Peter Bailey had a substantially different sensibility than the other poster artists, and it is unfortunate that he created only two of these psychedelic posters.
The original poster was printed on white index stock and measures approximately 13⅜″ x 21¾″.
The postcard comes in three varieties, all of which measure approximately 5″ x 8″:
The Type A card has a “place stamp here” reverse.
The Type B card has a bulk rate permit on the back.
The Type C card has a bulk rate permit on the back, and was addressed and sent to people on the mailing list.
