Catalog No. BG-55

This poster for a 1967 show with Chuck Berry, the Grateful Dead, and Johnny Talbot & De Thangs is printed in black ink with shades of yellowish brown and ochre. One of the images that seems to have held great interest for psychedelic artists is that of a nude woman holding a large snake. Most of the uses of this image were derived from a painting entitled Die Suende (The Sin) by Franz Stuck, who worked in Vienna at the beginning of the 20th century. For BG-55, Wes Wilson has created his own version—which is as good as anything Stuck painted.

The original poster was printed on white index stock and measures approximately 13⅝″ x 20½″. The credit “Printed by West Coast Lithograph Co. SF” appears in the right margin.

The second print poster was printed on white index stock and measures approximately 13½″ x 20⅝″. There is no printing credit on this poster.

The original postcard comes in three varieties, all of which measure approximately 5″ x 7⅞″. Each of these cards has a West Coast Litho credit on the back.

The Type A card has a “place stamp here” reverse.

The Type B card has a bulk rate permit on the back.

The Type C card has a bulk rate permit on the back, and was addressed and sent to people on the mailing list.

The reprint postcard measures approximately 4⅞″ x 7⅞″ and has a Creative Litho credit on the back. These were printed concurrently with the second print poster.
