Fillmore Auditorium 4/28-30/67

This poster is either yellow or chartreuse and silver on a black background. Variations occurred when the inks changed during the press run. The central image is a stylized human face with a long headdress that forms part of the lettering of the venue, date, and band names: Buffalo Springfield, the Steve Miller Blues Band, and Freedom Highway. Wes Wilson’s designs for The Fillmore Auditorium shows are lauded as some of the most brilliant works of graphic art created in the twentieth century.

The original poster comes in several varieties, all of which were printed on white index stock and measure approximately 14″ x 21½″. Beside the yellow or chartreuse color variants, these were printed on different sides of the same paper. Eric King differentiates between these in his guide but for the purposes of listing them for sale, we will use these terms:

The Type 1 original is printed in chartreuse ink.

The Type 2 original is printed with yellow ink.

The postcard comes in three varieties, all of which measure approximately 4½″ x 8″. Each type of postcard also comes in the two colors used to print the original posters.

The Type A card has a “place stamp here” reverse.

The Type B card has a bulk rate permit on the back.

The Type C card has a bulk rate permit on the back, and was addressed and sent to people on the mailing list.
