Vulcan Gas Company 10/23-25/69
Catalog No. AOR-3.126
Another great handbill from Vulcan Gas! This interesting design depicts the Velvet Underground in a new light. The connection between Texas and the West Coast psychedelic movement is quite strong. Chet Helms, who produced the Family Dog shows, and Janis Joplin, lead singer for Big Brother and the Holding Company, were both Texans who were well-known on the West Coast.
The Vulcan Gas Company was primarily a venue for local bands, but some touring bands such as the Fugs from New York and the Velvet Underground played there as well.
The original handbill was printed on thin white stock and measures approximately 8″ x 11″.
