Orange County Fairgrounds, Costa Mesa 1/1/68
Catalog No. AOR-3.64
Known simply as the “Orange Groove,” this might be a strong candidate for one of the most beautiful posters of the period. This was used to advertise a series of concerts that were held every Friday and Saturday at the Orange County Fairgrounds in Costa Mesa, CA. While this poster is commonly attributed to shows held in 1967 (and is listed as a 1967 poster in the “Art of Rock”), it should be noted that there is a 1968 copyright and Fried signed it with the notation “68” in the lower right corner. This poster is quite large and was easily damaged, making it very difficult to find in top condition today.
The original poster was printed on white stock and measures approximately 23″ x 29″.
We have seen a number of these with the white border trimmed off - these measure approximately 21⅛″ x 26″.
