Oakland Coliseum 3/25/67
Catalog No. AOR-2.294
This handbill was used to promote a show produced by Bill Quarry that featured Eric Burdon and the Animals.
Bill Quarry was a concert promoter who worked mainly out of East Bay venues such as the Rollarena in San Leandro. His promotions were not on a scale like that of Bill Graham or the Family Dog, but it was Quarry who deserves credit for booking many bands from outside the Bay Area. Buffalo Springfield, the Young Rascals, the Byrds, and English groups like Eric Burdon and the Animals were some of the talent that Quarry brought to the clubs in the Bay Area.
Most of the posters and handbills for the Teens ’n’ Twenties events produced by Quarry were drawn by Don Ryder, who had little to no experience as a graphic designer. Nevertheless, he drew several hundred images over a two-year period for these shows.
The original handbill comes in two versions; both measure approximately 8″ x 11″:
Type A is printed on pink paper in black ink.
Type B is printed on blue paper in black ink.
