Fillmore Auditorium 4/8-9/66

Love at Fillmore Auditorium 4/8-9/66 by Wes Wilson &
Chet Helms

© Chet Helms DBA Family Dog Productions All Rights Reserved

Catalog No. FD-4

AA classic Wes Wilson and Chet Helms collaboration known as “Dirty Old Man,” this poster represents the last of the Family Dog shows at the Fillmore Auditorium. The great 19th century engraving of two people clad only in nightshirts suggests to the viewer that this is an event they would not want to miss.

Once again, only small quantities of original poster were printed, and most collectors will have to settle for a reprint. Fortunately, these reprints are generally available at a reasonable cost.

The original poster is printed on a thick gray stock and measures approximately 14⅛″ x 20″. The paper used was very low quality and, as a result, this poster is very difficult to find in top condition today.

Another original poster was printed on white vellum and measures approximately 14″ x 20″. Very few of this variety are known to exist.

The second print poster was also printed on thick gray stock and measures approximately 14⅛″ x 20″. This poster carries the notation “4 (2)” in the lower left corner. These are extremely rare and we see them less often than originals.

The third print poster was printed on thin, uncoated index stock and measures approximately 14⅛″ x 20″. On this poster the notation “No. 4-3” appears in the lower right corner.

A pirate print, or bootleg, of this poster appeared around 1987. It measures roughly ⅜″ wider than the third print poster and has a general lack of detail. In addition, it was printed on slightly thicker stock than the third print poster.

The original handbill measures approximately 5″ x 8″ and is printed on white paper in black ink. Uncut sheets of two handbills that measure approximately 11″ x 8″ exist also.
