The long and short of the 2nd Annual Star Magic Ball
By Edgar O. Cruz, Contributor 07/23/2008 When the skies opened late afternoon of June 29, stars started ascending to the Isla Ballroom of the Edsa Shangri-La Hotel for the second grand Star Magic Ball to celebrate the country’s premiere talent management and development center’s 16th year. The ballroom was decked with huge floral arrangements from Mabolo Flowers with buffet spreads offering sumptuous dishes. ABS-CBN Star Magic artists headed by Claudine Barretto and Piolo Pascual looked dapper and elegant in their black ties and long gowns, mostly in black or white. Claudine opted to be the exception by coming in a red gown with an elegant train, the mark of a queen. It seemed the train was the night’s favorite. The dancing started early with DJ Kimosave providing the music. After the sumptuous dinner, Nikki Gil opened the show by introducing Richard Poon. Piolo, Sam Milby, Jed Madela, Diether Ocampo and John Lloyd Cruz joined him in a Spiral Staircase medley. A hot dance number followed with lifts, twirls and flips featuring Saicy Aguila, Gem Ramos, Michelle Murenec, Princess Ryan, Thou Reyes, Arron Villaflor, Rodjun Cruz, Tim Espinosa, Sam Concepcion, Andi Eigenmann and Pokwang. Richard Poon also sang a duet with Nikki before the Star Magic artists presented their rigodon. Awards were given out to Piolo, Bea Alonzo, Rafael Rosell and Malaya Lewandowski as Coke Fashion Icons and Anne Curtis and Sam as Moet et Chandon Sparkling Couple of the Night. PBB Teen Edition Plus Big Winner Ejay Falcon came out a big winner once again that night as he won an Asian cruise from Star Cruises Philippines. Freddie Garcia, one of the brains behind the creation of Star Magic, was greeted an advance happy birthday (July 13). Planet Flip Flops also gave a donation to Bayan Ni Juan. After the rigodon, everybody filled the dance floor as they danced to hip-hop/disco music with Dino Imperial providing DJ spiels. Back to top
