Avalon Ballroom 5/20-22/66

Love at Avalon Ballroom 5/20-22/66 by Wes Wilson

© Chet Helms DBA Family Dog Productions All Rights Reserved

Catalog No. FD-9

“H“Hupmobile 8” is the name of this early Family Dog poster, as well as a car. It features a central image of sexily-clad Greta Garbo from the original film poster for the 1932 movie “Mata Hari.” This poster advertises “A Freewheeling Vehicle,” and we have no doubt that it was a freewheeling dance concert.

This is another early Family Dog poster that is hard to find in top condition, but the abundance of second and third prints on the market will satisfy the collector of images, rather than strictly original prints.

The original poster was printed on white vellum and measures approximately 14″ x 20″. It carries the Union logo #72 in the lower right corner.

The second print poster was also printed on white vellum and measures approximately 14″ x 20″. The incorrect notation “4(2)” appears in the lower left corner.

The third print poster was printed on uncoated index and measures approximately 14″ x 20″. The correct notation “No. 9-3” appears in the lower right corner.

There is a pirate print of this poster done in the early 1970s that can be identified by the credit “San Francisco Poster Co.” in the lower right corner.

The original handbill measures approximately 5″ x 8″ and was printed on white paper in black ink.

There is also a forgery of this handbill that can be identified by the black center of the “D” in the Family Dog logo.
