The Doors

FFormed in 1965 in Los Angeles, The Doors were among the most controversial acts of the 1960s, due mostly to Jim Morrison’s wild lyrics and stage persona. The Doors lineup was Jim Morrison, Ray Manzarek, John Densmore, and Robby Kreiger until the death of Morrison in July 1971. The Doors recorded their debut album in August 1966 and released six albums while Morrison was alive. Morrison’s life was a tragic affair and his legal, and alcohol- and drug-related problems have been well documented. By December 1970, Morrison had a breakdown on stage and could no longer perform. Shortly thereafter, he moved to Paris with his girlfriend, Pamela Courson. He died of an apparent overdose on July 3, 1971 at the age of 27.

The Doors influence on the musical scene of the 60s is undeniable; they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1993. Additionally, in 2004, Rolling Stone Magazine ranked the group number 41 on their list of the 100 Greatest Artists of All Time. In 2007, The Doors received a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Grammys, and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
