TThere seems to be some confusion between authorities regarding what constitutes an original printing and a reprint. Eric King lists one original and two reprints, while a major San Francisco Website lists all three as originals. We list them here as they are cataloged by Eric King. Interestingly, the pricing by that company indicates their belief that the original listed by Eric King is the most common, followed by the Type B, and then the Type C.
The original poster was printed on uncoated index stock and measures approximately 14″ x 20″. This original has brownish-green lettering that matches the postcard. This poster is listed as the Type A by the Website in San Francisco.
The two second prints listed by Eric King are both from the same press run and both measure approximately 14″ x 20″. These two posters have a much more golden color to the ink used for the lettering. One version is printed on uncoated index stock, and is listed as the Type B original by the company in San Francisco. The other is printed on somewhat glossy, slick stock and is listed as the Type C.
The postcards come in several types, all of which measure approximately 5″ x7″:
The Type A card has a “place stamp here” reverse that is printed in black.
The Type B card has a bulk rate permit on the back and is printed in black.
The Type C card has a “place stamp here” reverse that is printed in lavender.
The Type D card has a bulk rate permit on the back and is printed in lavender.
Additionally, both bulk rate cards were probably mechanically addressed and sent to people on the Family Dog mailing list.
