Buffalo Springfield

BBuffalo Springfield was a short-lived group that launched the careers of Neil Young, Stephen Stills, Richie Furay, and Jim Messina. Despite the band’s brief existence and limited musical output, it was one of the most influential bands of the 1960s, with virtually all of its members going on to successful careers, and two (Stills and Young) reaching superstar status. The band formed in April 1966 and lasted a mere 25 months. On May 2, 1966, the band began a seven-week stint at the famous Whisky a Go Go, which solidified the band’s reputation for exciting live performances and led to offers of recording contracts.

Buffalo Springfield released three studio albums between 1966 and1968, but is best known for the landmark single, For What It's Worth, composed by Stephen Stills in November 1966. The band played its last concert at Long Beach Arena on May 5, 1968. Buffalo Springfield disbanded a little more than two years after it began. In 1997, the group was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
