Avalon Ballroom 5/13-14/66

Blues Project at Avalon Ballroom 5/13-14/66 by Wes Wilson

© Chet Helms DBA Family Dog Productions All Rights Reserved

Catalog No. FD-8

TThis poster, which features the grinning faces of a man and woman, is known as the “Laugh Cure.” With a name and images like this, who could resist attending this dance concert?

Usually seen well-used and even abused, this original poster is very hard to find in top condition. Fortunately for the collector who doesn’t have to own an original, this is one of the most affordable early Family Dog posters when purchased as a second or third print.

The original poster was printed on white vellum and measures approximately 14″ x 20″. This can be a tricky poster to identify, but the best distinguishing feature is that you can see about one half of a fourth tooth in the photograph of the woman’s face.

The second print poster was also printed on white vellum, but it measures approximately 14″ x 20″. There are no credits that distinguish this from a first print, but there are only three teeth visible in the photograph of the woman, and the left side of her nose is much darker than an original.

The third print poster is printed on uncoated index stock and measures approximately 14″ x 20″. The notation “No. 8-3” appears in the lower right corner.

The original handbill measures approximately 5″ x 8″ and was printed on thin white paper in black ink.
